Why Architects Choose Continox

Designed in the UK, Manufactured in the EU

Continox combines UK-based design and structural engineering with EU-based manufacturing at our EN 1090-1 EXC2 certified facility near Kraków, Poland — pairing bespoke staircase design heritage with intra-EU supply efficiency for French projects.

EN 1090-1 EXC2 Certified Manufacturing

All structural steel components fabricated at our EN 1090-1 Execution Class EXC2 certified facility — covering CE marking and Declaration of Performance per EU Construction Products Regulation 305/2011. Every staircase ships with the marquage CE plate fitted and the DoP packaged with the technical pack.

Code de la Construction Compliant

Every staircase is dimensionally engineered to satisfy the Code de la construction et de l'habitation (CCH) and relevant NF standards for the project's specific classification — habitation privée for residential interiors, ERP (Établissement Recevant du Public) for communal and commercial zones. Technical pack includes a compliance schedule prepared by our structural team.

Intra-EU Supply, No Brexit Customs

Manufacturing in Poland means delivery to France runs as intra-EU B2B supply — no customs procedures, no import duty, no EUR 1 movement certificate, no Brexit complications. Invoices zero-rated for VAT at origin under EU intra-community supply rules; French TVA accounted for under standard reverse-charge mechanism.

Got Questions?

Modern Staircase France FAQ

Everything architects and main contractors ask about supplying Continox modern staircases to French villa and commercial projects.

How much does a modern staircase cost in France?

Modern staircase supply costs to France typically range from €7,999 for an L-shape steel plates staircase to €8,999–€14,500 for a central spine with oak or walnut treads and frameless glass — the typical Côte d'Azur, Paris or Alpine villa specification — and €12,999–€25,000 for fully bespoke geometry in Cap Ferrat or Courchevel-class projects. All prices are supply-only ex-works EU. Add €900–€1,800 for delivery to mainland France. Installation by the project's main contractor.

Why is Continox manufacturing in Poland?

Continox is UK-based for design and engineering, but manufacturing is at our EN 1090-1 EXC2 certified facility near Kraków, Poland. For French projects this matters: the supply route is intra-EU B2B supply — no customs procedures, no import duty, no EUR 1 movement certificate, no Brexit-related complications. Transit time to Paris, Nice or Lyon is 3–5 working days. The structural engineering and design heritage remain UK-based; manufacturing and logistics are EU-based.

How does Continox handle French building code compliance?

Every Continox staircase supplied to France is dimensionally engineered to satisfy the Code de la construction et de l'habitation (CCH) and applicable NF standards. For private residences: minimum 80 cm clear width, maximum 21 cm riser height, minimum 21 cm going. For ERP (public-access buildings): minimum 120 cm width, handrails both sides, contrasting nosings per arrêtés d'accessibilité. The technical pack includes a compliance schedule prepared by our structural team. Final compliance verification and DAACT remain the legal responsibility of the project's French-registered architect.

What lead time should I plan for a French project?

Plan for 4–8 weeks from order confirmation to delivery on site in France. Breakdown: 1 week for design sign-off (3D visuals + architect approval), 3–6 weeks fabrication at Kraków (steel, treads, glass concurrent), 3–5 working days transit by dedicated freight as intra-EU supply. Order during the structural shell phase — typically 6–10 weeks before planned installation.

Do you supply matching glass balustrades for terraces and balconies?

Yes. Continox manufactures the full glass balustrade system range alongside staircases — frameless balustrades for terraces, pool surrounds, mezzanines, balcony railings and rooftop access — in matching specifications and finishes. Same EN 14449 + EN 12150 standards, same low-iron upgrade option, same fixing systems. Combining staircase and balustrade supply into a single order typically reduces overall delivery cost. See our glass balustrade page and balcony railings page.

Who is responsible for site dimensions and final compliance?

The architect or maître d'œuvre supplies accurate site dimensions to Continox — floor-to-floor height, trémie (stairwell opening) width and length, structural substrate condition, finished floor build-up. Continox engineers and fabricates against the dimensions in the architect-approved 3D design. Final compliance verification, contrôle technique acceptance and Déclaration Attestant l'Achèvement et la Conformité des Travaux (DAACT) remain the legal responsibility of the project's French-registered architect.

Can I see my staircase design before manufacturing begins?

Yes — Continox provides detailed 3D photorealistic visualisations of every staircase before manufacture begins. These show the staircase accurately placed within the actual stairwell — materials, finishes, balustrade style, lighting scheme. Two revision rounds included as standard at no extra cost. Files supplied: DWG, PDF, STEP on request for BIM coordination, plus signed structural calculations from a UK Chartered Structural Engineer.

Do you work with French architectural practices?

Yes. Continox works directly with French architectural practices (cabinets d'architecture) and maîtres d'œuvre across Paris, the Côte d'Azur, Lyon, Bordeaux, the Alps and the wider market. The supply-only model is built around architect-led workflows: 3D visuals during avant-projet phase, technical pack in DWG/PDF/STEP for projet d'exécution, structural calculations as signed PDF, free remote technical support during installation. The architect remains the design authority and legal certifying professional throughout.
