Bespoke Staircase Cost FAQ

Everything you need to know about bespoke staircase costs, pricing factors and what's included.

Pricing & Costs
A bespoke staircase in the UK starts from £7,900 for a floating staircase and £9,500 for a central spine staircase — both including design, manufacture and professional installation. The typical range for most residential projects is £9,500 to £18,000 depending on shape, tread width, glass specification and any upgrades such as LED lighting or platform landings. Fully bespoke designs start from £11,500 and can exceed £25,000 for complex, architect-led projects.
A floating staircase costs from £7,900 for a standard straight flight with solid oak treads, 12mm glass balustrade on one side and professional installation included. The typical range is £7,900 to £14,000 depending on the number of turns, tread width and glass specification. See our floating staircase page for more details.
A central spine staircase starts from £9,500 for a straight flight with solid oak treads, 12mm glass balustrade on one side, oak handrail and professional installation. An L-shape typically costs £11,000–£13,000 and a U-shape £13,000–£18,000 depending on tread width and glass specification. See our full central spine staircase pricing guide for a complete breakdown.
All prices quoted by Continox are excl. VAT. VAT at the standard rate (currently 20%) is added to the final invoice. We always make this clear in our quotations — there are no hidden charges. If you are VAT registered, you may be able to reclaim the VAT on your staircase as a business expense.
What's Included
Yes — professional installation is included as standard in all Continox staircase prices. Our experienced in-house team handles the full installation, typically completed in 2–3 days. We never use subcontractors. Additional charges may apply for complex structural work such as beam removal, scaffold access or specialist fixings — these are always quoted separately and agreed before work begins.
Yes — detailed 3D visualisations are included as standard in every Continox project. Our design team creates accurate 3D renders of your staircase in your actual space, so you can see exactly how the finished design will look before a single component is cut or manufactured. We will not proceed to manufacture without your full approval of the design.
Removal of an existing staircase is not included in the base price — it is quoted separately following the on-site survey. The cost depends on the construction of your existing staircase (timber, concrete, steel) and the complexity of removal. We manage the entire removal and disposal process and include it as a clearly itemised line in your quotation.
Process & Timeline
The installation itself typically takes 2–3 days for most residential staircases. The full project timeline from initial enquiry to installation is usually 6–8 weeks for standard designs and 8–12 weeks for fully bespoke projects — this covers the free survey, design, 3D visualisation approval, manufacture and installation scheduling.
The most accurate way is to book a free on-site survey. We visit your property, take precise measurements, assess the structural conditions and discuss your design preferences. We then provide a fixed-price quotation — not an estimate. You will never be asked to commit based on a phone or email figure alone. Book your free survey here →
Yes — a high-quality bespoke staircase is one of the most impactful investments you can make in a home. Estate agents consistently report that a feature staircase — particularly a central spine or floating design with glass balustrade — increases perceived value and buyer interest significantly. In premium homes, a well-executed staircase can add value well in excess of its installation cost, and it immediately transforms the character of a hallway or open-plan interior.
